Tony Award nominee Michael Berresse and newcomer Evan Jonigkeit will join previously announced star Kathleen Turner in the world premiere of Matthew Lombardo’s High. The play will debut at TheaterWorks in Hartford, Connecticut (July 2-August 15) and then travel to Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park (September 4-October 2) and the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (October 12-November 7), directed by Rob Ruggiero.
High centers on Sister Jamison Connelly (Turner), who finds her faith tested after agreeing to sponsor a 19-year-old hustler and drug user (Jonigkeit) in an effort to combat his addiction. Struggling between the knowledge she possesses as a rehabilitation counselor and her own moral convictions, she begins to question the belief in miracles and whether people can find the courage to change Berresse plays Father Michael Delpapp, Sister Jamison’s colleague and occasional adversary.
Berresse received a Tony nomination for Kiss Me, Kate and has starred on Broadway in A Chorus Line, The Light in the Piazza, Chicago and Damn Yankees. As a director, he was represented on Broadway with [title of show]. Jonigkeit has worked regularly in Philadelphia theaters including Arden Theatre, Mauckingbird Theatre, Walnut St. Theatre, Montgomery Theatre, and People's Light & Theatre.
Lombardo made his Broadway debut this season with the Tallulah Bankhead bio-play Looped and is also the author of the Katharine Hepburn bio-play Tea at Five.
The design team for High includes set designer David Gallo, costume designer Jess Goldstein, lighting designer John Lasiter and sound designer Vincent Oliveri.
